Your priorities. An agreed mandate.
A bespoke mandate starts with a defined objective and an agreed set of investment boundaries. Regalis considers portfolio construction, liquidity needs, reporting preferences and the responsibilities each party will retain.
REGALIS / Bespoke Investment MandatesIndividual requirements deserve explicit boundaries.
Some investors need more than a choice between existing products. They may have a concentrated business interest, an unusual cash flow requirement or a family decision structure that requires a different approach.
The mandate should make practical choices explicit. These include which investments are permitted, who can approve changes, how performance is assessed and what happens when the client's circumstances change.
Individualisation does not remove investment risk. It provides a clearer framework for determining which risks are acceptable and how the portfolio will be managed within those boundaries.
Translate priorities into instructions
Investment scope
Define permitted asset classes, geographic exposure and exclusions. Consider existing businesses, property and portfolios before adding further exposure. Public markets, private investments and real assets can have a place where the agreed objective and practical constraints support them. The mandate should explain what the manager may do independently.
Liquidity and concentration
Set out the commitments capital must support and the flexibility required. Consider reserves, private investment commitments and delayed exits. Establish limits addressing real concentrations, including shared economic drivers across differently labelled assets. The required access to capital should shape implementation from the outset.
Authority and information
Agree who can make decisions, which matters need consultation and how exceptions are handled. Reporting should support the investor decision process, with clear definitions, relevant comparisons and explanation of significant changes. Record who receives information and how authorised representatives are appointed or removed.

Create a brief that guides real decisions.
A useful mandate is more than a list of preferred investments. It should resolve practical choices that arise when markets move, opportunities appear or cash needs change. For example, it can explain whether an illiquid allocation requires approval and how a significant withdrawal request would be considered. Changes in priorities should prompt a documented review.
The design discussion covers implementation, investment structure, costs and the involvement of existing advisers. Your accountant or lawyer may need to review ownership and entity arrangements before a service is established. We agree the scope in writing and identify information needed to assess whether the proposed relationship can meet your requirements. Existing holdings remain relevant even where they sit outside the managed mandate.
Discuss a Bespoke Mandate
Start with a focused conversation. Tell us your objectives, the capital you are considering and the questions you would like to resolve. We can explain the relevant information and agree a useful next step.
